Our Editorial Approach
How we research, write and correct the information on this site.
Approach
Research and writing
Each page is written from scratch for DC households dealing with cooling and heating problems. We aim to explain how systems work, what commonly fails and what to ask, without promoting any business.
Factual statements draw on public sources: federal agencies such as the EPA, the ENERGY STAR program, the National Weather Service and DC government agencies. Each page lists its sources, and numbered markers link claims to them.
We write for readers who may be hot, tired and reading on a phone. Answers come first, sections stay short, and tables are used where they make comparisons clearer. DC details such as rowhouses, rooftop units and historic districts appear only where they change what a reader should do.
Limits
What we leave out
We never publish fabricated reviews, ratings, license numbers, years in business, arrival-time promises or any claim we cannot verify. Technicians reached by phone are independent and are not described as our employees.
Nothing here is legal, electrical, engineering or medical advice. When a source moves or disappears, we replace it with a current source for the same point or revise the sentence.
